Increasing Outreaches

INCREASING OUTREACHES
Educating Deaf Girls
Hearing volunteers from a "Prospect For Girls" organization that educates girls about feminine health care used an interpreter to present about proper hygiene and personal care at the local deaf school. I learned of this event and went myself, along with two people from the deaf church. After their presentation, I introduced myself and passed out free homemade hygiene items that I collected from Samaritana. After leaving the classroom, other students ran up to me and gave me a hug. After seeing how well the children responded to me, the school supervisor asked me to return to help counsel the deaf students about sexual abuse. Because the language barrier limits what help they can offer, the supervisor understood the importance of this counseling coming from a deaf individual.

Journey of Evangelism
Solomon, one of our staff leaders, goes out to evangelize on Wednesdays regularly. I joined him in June and early July. Solomon escorted me to neighborhoods with deaf people who he knew we could reach out to. Solomon met a deaf Muslim and developed a relationship with him for a few months before I met him. I sat and listened to Solomon’s teaching to this deaf Muslim. I felt how thirsty he was to know the truth when the Holy Spirit moved me to go ahead and tell him about the Good News. The deaf Muslim’s eyes widened after hearing about Jesus Christ. He desperately wanted to accept Jesus Christ, but he is afraid of being rejected by his own Muslim family. However, he accepted our prayer offering. He hasn’t yet invited Jesus Christ in his heart, but he is still hungry to learn more.

Solomon is motivated to learn how to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. I encouraged him to trust the Holy Spirit’s work which will help him to improve on his evangelism gift. I enjoy encouraging and supporting others to use their spiritual gifts.

Hospital Outreach
A deaf woman fell seriously ill and couldn't afford to go to the doctor. The Smiths and I helped to get her to the hospital. A couple of days into her hospital stay, we learned she would have serious consequences if she didn't have surgery. We prayed and were able to cover her medical bills. Throughout this experience, we spoke about God and faith, and the woman’s future husband began praying with us. After a few more days, she was completely healed and back to work.

Church’s First Outreach Trip
The Smith family and I had our first outreach trip to Basse with three deaf men from our church. It took us six hours to arrive. Our purpose was to encourage and support a Christian man who is also the only deaf teacher in Basse. We brought school supplies for the students.  We had a brief worship time. We put on skits, played games, and did a craft activity at his deaf school. We left the school and went to the guest house where we stayed while in Basse, and the older students came over for fellowship with us.

Prayer Requests
1.    I know many of you want to know if we have found a building for our deaf church and/or purchased a van. We are in the process of seeking and will get back to you about it in September. I ask you to please continue praying for us to go in the right direction where God guides us. God's timing is the best!

2.    Please pray for deaf Muslim people. Some of them want to accept Jesus Christ, but at the same time, they are so afraid of being rejected by their families. They would prefer to stay in their comfort zone.

Newsletter Editor: I need a volunteer with strong English writing skills who can help with editing the newsletters for me. Please email me if you are interested: kevimissions.servingthelord@gmail.com

Note: The next newsletter will be published on September 27. I have decided to do a bi-monthly newsletter.
