Upcoming Short-Term Trip in Africa

Howdy from Plano, Texas!

I want to share an exciting opportunity with you! In the past few months, there has been a tug at my heart from the Holy Spirit regarding Africa. I will explain more in the next newsletter, but I want to share with you about the upcoming short-term trip on October 30.

Last week, I got connected with a missionary family through my great missionary friend. The Jungheim family is a member of the International Missions Board (IMB). They have been doing overseas mission projects, working with various Deaf ministries for around 10 years. We recently discussed our passions and faith together. We see the potential of working together for short-term trips to Africa in the future, especially in the 1040 window. The 1040 Window is the largest unreached people groups in the world including Africa, Middle East, and Asia. This is a rectangular area between 10 degrees north and 40 degrees north latitude.

A few days ago, they told me about their upcoming event in Senegal, West Africa called StoryCamp. They are aware they are inviting me at the very last minute, but they would love to have me join their short term mission trip from October 30-November 12th. They recognize my heart for Africa, and feel it is really important for me to join one of their events.

It will take seven days to translate seven stories into the heart language of the Deaf.  These will be recorded and uploaded onto a video Bible for Deaf people to have access to. They are bringing Deaf people together from 5 countries in West Africa for the StoryCamp including Senegal, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Gambia, and Niger.

During the camp, they go through a crafting process (no words, all visual) to learn the story, understand the story, and then sign the story. People who attend this camp will study these stories and leave camp ready to go and share them with others.

I have been praying about this a lot. I am motivated to join this missionary family’s ministry to meet Deaf Africans and show God’s love to them. Not only that, I am thrilled to take this opportunity to learn how to share the Bible stories with others with the visual accessibility for their heart language. There are around 30 people who will attend StoryCamp. I am so excited to see what God has in store for Deaf Africans there!

The good news is I have mission supporters who are willing to pay for my plane ticket fees. I kindly ask for your help to cover the costs for the hotel and food which will be roughly $800. You can donate $25, $50, or whatever God puts on your heart to support me with. Thankfully, I was told that I can pay it off by December 1st! You can donate to MEI, Venmo, or PayPal whatever works the best for you.

Your prayers and consideration are greatly appreciated.

Love in Christ,

Kevlasha Humphrey
